Densely patterned black and teal small-scale linear pattern.
From the Ansonia collection, which was inspired by the contrast of the old-world glamour of a waltz and the wild, bohemian charm of the tango. A mix of art and industry, traditional and unconventionality. Ansonia is a small town in America's Connecticut, known in bygone years for small-scale industry including clocks, copper and textiles.
Denyse Schmidt is one of our favourite fabric designers. Her designs are simple, timeless and ambiguous, which allows them to traverse diverse styles and eras without looking like an imposter. The colours are generally muddy and unusual, which gives an authentic retro mood. The base cloths are beautiful quality and a cream colour, rather than white, so it feels like a precious piece from your nana's stash before you've even started sewing.
Denyse's designs are terrific for completing and repairing vintage quilts and equally fabulous as the confident star of retro-inspired clothing.
