From the Five+Ten collection, which was inspired by a beachside variety store in Cape Cod, where designer Denyse Scmidt spent her childhood. She recalls it stocking the essentials for a summer holiday - giant floating toys and rafts, beach towels, sunhats, baskets, beach buckets and balls. It also had puzzles, board games, playing cards, and postcards, just in case the weather turned to rain.
Denyse Schmidt is one of our favourite fabric designers. Her designs are simple, timeless and ambiguous, which allows them to traverse diverse styles and eras without looking like an imposter. The colours in this range and bright, fun and happy. The base cloths are beautiful quality and more cream than white, so it feels like a precious piece from your nana's stash before you've even started sewing.
Denyse's designs are terrific for completing and repairing vintage quilts and equally fabulous as the confident star of retro-inspired clothing.
